Psychotherapeutic Session Plan
Session Objective
In this 30-minute session, the objective is to support the patient in managing their stress through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and engaging in creative activities. Additionally, we aim to address negative mindsets and promote healthy coping mechanisms.

- Session Overview: Outline the session's structure, highlighting the focus on stress management and creativity.
2. Identify Negative Thoughts (5 minutes)
- Discussion: Explore any pervasive negative mindsets, such as “People will always reject me.” Encourage the patient to express thoughts associated with this belief.
- Cognitive Restructuring: Introduce the concept of challenging these negative thoughts. Ask the patient to identify evidence for and against their belief.
3. Engaging in Creative Activity (10 minutes)
- Activity Introduction: Explain the creative activity (e.g., drawing, writing, or crafting) that will help them express their emotions and provide a distraction from stress.
- Activity Execution:
- Set up a comfortable space for the activity.
- Guide the patient through the process. Encourage freedom of expression, emphasizing that there are no right or wrong outcomes.
- Encourage the patient to integrate any negative thoughts into their creative work, transforming them into positive expressions.
4. Emotional Release & Reflection (5 minutes)
- Sharing: Invite the patient to share their creative outcome if they feel comfortable.
- Reflection: Discuss how the activity felt and whether it offered any emotional relief or perspective on their stress.
- Reinforce Coping Technique: Highlight the importance of creative expression as a coping mechanism.
5. Mood Monitoring Assignment (5 minutes)
- Introduce Mood Tracking: Explain the importance of monitoring mood changes.
- Assignment: Provide the patient with a simple mood tracking worksheet (or template) to fill out daily. It should include:
- A scale from 1 to 10 to rate mood.
- Space to note any events or thoughts that impacted their mood.
- Encourage Commitment: Ask the patient to commit to this for the upcoming week and discuss when they will bring it to the next session.
Closing
- Wrap-Up: Summarize the session's main points, emphasizing the creative coping strategies discussed.
- Next Steps: Remind the patient of the importance of returning for the next session to track progress and further explore coping techniques.
- Final Check-In: Ask how they are feeling as the session ends and express optimism about their next steps.
By following this plan, the session aims to help the patient express their stress creatively, challenge negative thoughts, and develop effective monitoring strategies for their mood.
