The individual presents with an increase in anxiety related to work, accompanied by a heightened sense of vulnerability and an acute awareness of potential threats in the workplace. Previously characterized by a sense of control, there has been a noticeable shift towards a perception of danger, particularly in interactions with female colleagues. This reaction may be rooted in past trauma experienced during an episode, specifically involving a seizure while working alongside a female peer.
A recent incident has contributed to the patient's emotional distress. While driving a response vehicle, the patient encountered a situation that triggered feelings of discomfort and anxiety. The patient described an encounter with a colleague, referred to as "Nick," during which an inappropriate physical interaction occurred, heightening the individual's sense of violation and anxiety.
During an emergency response, while attending to an intoxicated individual in a domestic setting, the patient experienced unwarranted physical contact from Nick, who brushed against their waist and body. This occurrence was witnessed by another colleague, "Megan," who questioned the interaction, indicating that it was perceived as inappropriate. Following the incident, the patient expressed significant emotional distress, characterized by sweating and heightened anxiety levels.
In the aftermath of these encounters, the patient reported feelings of anger and anxiety, particularly concerning future interactions with new staff members. The emotional toll of the situation led to crying episodes and feelings of isolation, as there was no immediate resolution or acknowledgment of the distress experienced. The patient submitted a formal statement regarding the incident but experienced a prolonged delay in receiving feedback, which compounded feelings of anger and worry about similar occurrences in the future.
Given the context and emotional impact of the experiences described, the following goals have been established for the treatment plan:
In support of these goals, the patient has been provided with information related to trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and strategies for managing anxiety. Additionally, resources such as respiratory exercises aimed at promoting relaxation during stressful moments have been shared to aid in the patient's recovery.
The intention moving forward is to create a structured framework for therapeutic intervention that supports the patient’s emotional and psychological needs, ultimately enabling them to regain a sense of safety and confidence in their professional interactions. Continued monitoring and support will be essential to facilitate a positive outcome in the patient’s emotional health trajectory.
