- Briefly revisit the goals of therapy and reinforce the confidentiality and supportive environment.
2. Mood Check-In (5 Minutes)
- Purpose: Evaluate the patient’s current mood and emotional state.
- Activities:
- Ask the patient to rate their mood on a scale of 1 to 10.

3. Cognitive Exploration (10 Minutes)
- Purpose: Identify and challenge negative thought patterns contributing to the patient's depression.
- Activities:
- Introduce the concept of automatic thoughts – ask the patient to recount a recent situation where they felt depressed.

- Use the CBT technique of cognitive restructuring to challenge these thoughts:
- Prompt the patient to question the truth of their thoughts.
- Encourage more balanced and rational alternatives.
4. Behavioral Activation (5 Minutes)
- Purpose: Encourage engagement in activities that may enhance mood.
- Activities:
- Explore the patient's daily routine and identify activities that bring minimal or no joy.

- Discuss how completing this activity may impact their mood.
5. Closing and Reflection (5 Minutes)
- Purpose: Summarize the session and prepare for the next.
- Activities:
- Encourage the patient to reflect on what they learned during the session and how they feel about it.
- Discuss the importance of implementing the identified activity and how it could impact their mood.
- Schedule the next session and invite any final thoughts or questions.
Summary

The use of CBT techniques will empower the patient to recognize and reframe negative thought patterns, ultimately encouraging a more active role in their mental health journey.
