- Goal: Help the patient recognize and articulate their thoughts and feelings around stress.
3. Coping Strategy Introduction (10 minutes)

- Mindfulness Practice: A brief guided mindfulness exercise (2-3 minutes) to help the patient ground themselves in the present moment.
- Thought Diary: Explain how to maintain a thought diary to write down stressful situations and their corresponding thoughts and feelings.
- Practice:
- Conduct a mini-exercise where the patient practices reframing a negative thought related to their stress.
- Ask: "Can you think of a recent stressful situation, and we can work on reframing your thoughts together?"
4. Closing and Takeaway (5 minutes)
- Recap the main points discussed and highlight any insights gained during the session.
- Setting Intentions: Encourage the patient to consciously apply one coping strategy over the next week.
- Ask: "Which strategy resonates with you the most to try this week?"
- Provide reassurance and support, and remind the patient that it’s okay to feel stressed. Acknowledge their feelings and validate their experiences.
- Schedule the next session and provide any additional resources if appropriate.
Important Notes
- Remain flexible throughout the session, allowing the patient to express themselves without pressure.
- Aim to build rapport and trust, even when patient engagement is neutral or indifferent.
- Monitor the patient's response to the mindfulness and reframing exercises, adjusting your approach if necessary.
