Letter of Support for Continued NDIS Funding

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Huhana, and I have had the privilege of supporting Jennifer Dixon (DOB: [insert date], NDIS Number: [insert number]) for the past two years in my role as her behaviour support practitioner. This letter aims to provide important context and background information regarding Jen's supports over the past twelve months, as well as to advocate for additional supports to be included in her next funding package.

Overview of Support Provided

Throughout the last year, I have worked closely with Jennifer to address her unique needs and to promote her overall well-being. Our focus has been on developing strategies that foster her independence while also providing the necessary tools to manage her behavioural challenges. Despite numerous efforts, we faced significant obstacles due to the unresponsiveness of previous service providers.

Challenges with Service Providers

Jennifer was supported by Melbourne Disability Services (MDS), but unfortunately, they demonstrated a lack of receptiveness toward behaviour support. Despite reaching out to the MDS team monthly, and sometimes even more frequently, we consistently encountered resistance. Over a six-month period, I requested training sessions for their staff that would equip them to better understand and support Jen’s behavioural needs. However, the feedback received was either dismissive, indicating that no training was needed, or I received no response at all. This lack of collaboration made it particularly difficult for Jen to receive the level of support she required.

In addition to training requests, I also sought access to and review of Jen's dysregulation reporting on a monthly basis. Tracking these behaviours is critical for understanding her needs and making informed decisions regarding her support strategies. Unfortunately, these requests often went unanswered, further highlighting the challenges we faced with MDS.

The Impact on Jennifer’s Progress

The absence of appropriate behaviour support and the lack of engagement from MDS have hindered Jennifer's progress and overall quality of life. Individuals with disabilities often require a coordinated approach to their care, particularly regarding behavioural management. The inconsistency in support has contributed to increased stress and frustration not only for Jennifer but also for her family and support network.

With the right support structure in place, including behaviour support training for service providers, I am confident that Jennifer would show significant improvements in her emotional regulation and daily functioning. It is crucial for her future that we address these shortcomings and enhance her available resources.

The Need for Continued NDIS Funding

In light of the challenges outlined above, I am advocating for continued NDIS funding for Jennifer’s core supports. Funding is essential to ensure she receives high-quality behaviour support, which is vital for her to thrive. By investing in her supports, we can help her develop skills that not only empower her but also enable her to engage more fully with her community.

As I have witnessed first-hand over the past two years, Jennifer possesses incredible potential, and with the right resources in place, she can achieve even greater milestones. Therefore, I strongly urge you to consider her application for continued funding, with an emphasis on tailoring her support package to include appropriate behaviour supports.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to review this letter and for considering the necessary supports that Jennifer requires in her NDIS funding package. I am happy to provide any further information or answer any questions to better assist in this process. I sincerely hope that Jennifer will receive the continued support she deserves, allowing her the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Warm regards,

Huhana
