1. Introduction (5 minutes)

2. Identifying Stressors (10 minutes)

- Document Responses
- Jot down their responses to visualize stressors, allowing the patient to see the accumulated stressors leading to their current state.
3. Cognitive Restructuring (10 minutes)
- Identifying Negative Thoughts
- Guide the patient in identifying any negative or irrational thoughts related to their stress.
- Use prompts, such as:
- "What thoughts go through your mind when you feel this stress?"
- "Do you notice any patterns in your thinking during these moments?"
- Challenging Negative Thoughts
- Teach the patient to question these thoughts:
- "What is the evidence for and against this thought?"
- "What's a more balanced or positive way to view this situation?"
- Practice Cognitive Reframing
- Ask the patient to choose one negative thought to reframe, assisting them in creating a more positive or neutral statement.
- Example prompt: "Given what we've discussed, how could you rephrase that thought?"
4. Stress Management Techniques (5 minutes)
- Introduce Coping Strategies
- Discuss simple coping strategies, even though no specific coping techniques were requested, suggest foundational methods like:
- Deep breathing exercises.
- Mindfulness or grounding techniques (e.g., focusing on the present moment).
- Encourage the patient to try these techniques during instances of stress.
5. Closing and Homework Assignment (5 minutes)
- Summarization
- Recap the session's main points, including identified stressors and reframed thoughts.
- Encourage Continuous Engagement
- Suggest they practice the coping techniques discussed and reflect on their effectiveness.
- Set Homework
- Assign a simple task: to keep a journal of stressors and accompanying thoughts throughout the week, noting when they engage in reframing or coping strategies.
- Closing Remarks
- Thank the patient for their participation and express your support for their ongoing journey in managing stress.
Follow-Up
Encourage the patient to bring their journal to the next session for discussion and further exploration of their thoughts and coping strategies.
